The perfumer: Pia Long

Finnish perfumer Pia Long is one of the few globally active professionals in the perfume industry who hails from Finland. Growing up in Helsinki, she learned several languages ​​and developed a passion for literature and writing at a young age. Although she initially set her sights on a career as a performer, a year-long break changed her path, leading her to perfumery.

Her approach to perfumery is unconventional. Although she did not receive traditional training at a perfumery school, Pia acquired her know-how through a combination of hands-on learning, mentoring and self-study over 12 years. She worked in supermarkets to learn about cosmetics and perfumes, and had a perfume collection by her teenage years.

After studying fashion at the London College of Fashion, Pia worked as a make-up artist and hair stylist in film and theatre. However, it was when she became a training manager for a British cosmetics and fragrance distributor that she discovered the world of perfumery. Intrigued by the secrets of creating fragrances, she set out to learn the art, despite the challenges of accessing specialist resources at the time.

Today, Pia Long is recognized for her talent and expertise in the perfume industry, continuing to explore and share her passion for this art.
