Zoologist Orchid Mantis explores this fascinating paradox through a deceptive fragrance. The opening is bright, fresh, almost joyful, with lemon, pear, and basil. Then come the sweet, warm, and carnal florals of orchid, jasmine, and rose. Finally, the forest takes over, dark and alive with patchouli, moss, sandalwood, and vetiver. The perfumer: Tomoo Inaba

Tomoo Inaba is a talented perfumer who rose to prominence thanks to his collaboration with Zoologist, for whom he created Nightingale in 2016. This initial success opened the doors to the industry and allowed him to compose Tuberai for the Californian brand Beau Kwon. Passionate about creating unique olfactory accords, he often draws inspiration from Japanese poetry and culture, as evidenced by his work on Moth, originally named Kagaribi (The Cressets), evoking a nocturnal flame. Specializing in spicy and smoky notes, he uses rare ingredients such as guaiac wood, nagarmotha, and Indian vetiver to translate his olfactory visions. His avant-garde approach blends tradition and modernity, resulting in fragrances that are both bold and timeless.
